Representation of Geographical Data - Quick Revision Sheet
Quick revision
Key terms
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Statistics | Numerical data collected systematically and presented in tabulated form |
| Isotherms, isobars, isohyets | Lines for temperature, pressure and rainfall |
| Area diagram | Two-dimensional diagram: squares, rectangles, circles, pie |
| Volume diagram | Three-dimensional diagram: cube, block piles, spheres |
| Simple line graph | Changes in one variable over time |
| Polygraph | Two or more variables shown by an equal number of lines |
| Columnar diagram | Another name for a bar diagram |
| Multiple bar diagram | Bars for two or more variables side by side |
| Pie diagram | Circle of 360 degrees divided into sectors |
Formula
Angle value = (value of component / total value) x 360
Remember
- Line graph steps: axes (origin 0), labels and scale, plot points, join, title.
- Bars: similar width, equal intervals, colours or patterns.
- Four kinds of bar diagram: simple, multiple, compound (sub-divided), percentage.
- Arrange data in ascending or descending order for a simple bar diagram.
- Literacy graph scale: x-axis 1 cm = 10 years, y-axis 1 cm = 10%.
- Asia 46.85% of wheat area = 168.66 degrees.
