Class 12 Chemistry

Class 12 Chemistry splits cleanly into three parts, and students who treat them the same way tend to lose marks in one of them. Physical chemistry (solid state, thermodynamics, ionic equilibrium, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, surface chemistry) rewards working through the relationships; inorganic chemistry (metallurgy, the p-block, transition elements and coordination compounds) rewards organised recall of trends and exceptions; organic chemistry (haloalkanes, alcohols, carbonyl compounds, amines, biomolecules) rewards knowing reagents and what each one does. The one-mark questions in the public exam draw from all three in roughly equal measure.
